Bill 81

Alberta government looking to set specific date for future provincial elections

Nov 5, 2021 | 7:27 AM

The Alberta government has introduced legislation to set a specific day for future provincial elections.

A bill proposes that the last Monday in May, every four years, will be the day Albertans go to the polls.

If the bill passes, the next vote would be held on May 29th, 2023, but there could be exceptions.

Alberta premiers always have the option to call an election for extenuating circumstances, including if they are seeking a mandate on consequential changes or if the governing party loses a confidence vote.
