The unemployment rate for the area that includes Grande Prairie and the Peace Region saw no change on a month-over-month basis.

The region, which also includes Banff, Jasper, Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca saw unemployment remain at 7.1 per cent for October, the same as September.

While unemployment from September to October didn’t see any change, there was a bit of a difference in the Grande Prairie region on a year-over-year basis, when unemployment sat at 10.9 per cent in October of 2020.

Across Alberta, unemployment dropped slightly to 7.6 per cent. Compared to this time last year, unemployment in Alberta has dropped by 3.2 per cent.

The industries which saw the biggest gains in employment throughout the province were wholesale and retail trade, public administration, and business.

Industries that had the most employment decreases from the previous month were accommodation and food services, forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil and gas.

Alberta currently holds the fifth-highest unemployment in Canada, after Newfoundland and Labrador’s 13.9 per cent, Prince Edward Island’s 9.1 per cent, New Brunswick’s 9.1 per cent, and Nova Scotia’s 8.3 per cent.

The Camrose and Drumheller area saw unemployment grow by a full percentage point over the last month.

Edmonton saw a 0.6 per cent drop in October, while Calgary saw a full per cent drop over the last month.
