Fairview emergency department to close for 12-hour period Tuesday evening

Nov 9, 2021 | 5:31 PM

The emergency department at the Fairview Health Complex will be closing for 12 hours starting Tuesday evening as it will be without an on-site physician.

Alberta Health Services says the closure will last from Tuesday, November 9 at 7 p.m. to Wednesday, November 10 at 7 a.m.

“AHS is working to ensure residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” said AHS in a public announcement.

Nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department to provide triage and assessments. Nurses will also refer patients to emergency departments in surrounding communities as needed.

EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities, including the Grimshaw/Berwyn and District Community Health Centre, the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River, and the Peace River Community Health Centre.

Patients requiring urgent emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911.

“Depending on their needs, patients seeking care at the ED in Fairview may also be made aware of services available through local pharmacies,” added AHS.

“Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.”
