Beaverlodge dance studio collecting Christmas Cards for military troops

For the third consecutive year, Satin Slippers Dance in Beaverlodge is collecting Christmas Cards to send to Canadian Armed Forces troops that are unable to go home during the holidays.

Owner of Satin Slippers Dance Michelle Takala-Grocholski says cards range from store-bought, handmade, and letters, which can be dropped off at the dance studio from now until December 1.

“Then we ship them off to Ontario and they distribute it amongst troops that aren’t able to come home.”

Takala-Grocholski adds she got the idea a few years ago from the Legion who was collecting cards for Christmas, adding that ever since then it’s become a tradition.

“Our very first year, we didn’t have a lot of cards, probably a dozen.”

However, she says their second year of collecting cards, the community rallied to help provide over 100 cards to send to the troops.

“We were really excited. We joined up with the Gift Box in Beaverlodge too, so any of their customers could drop off cards,” she said.

“Then some of the schools like St. Mary’s in Beaverlodge, they had classrooms that did it as one of their English writing assignments and they had to do cards and letters and then they dropped them off as well.”

Takala-Grocholski says this year they are partnering up with the Gift Box once again, to collect cards.

She suggests anyone wanting to help provide cards to the troops can drop them off at the Gift Box or Satin Slippers dance studio in Beaverlodge before December 1.
