Grande Prairie records one COVID-19 death over weekend, 29 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 29 new cases of COVID-19 and 20 recoveries, as well as one death attributed to COVID-19 between Nov. 12-14. Those figures bring the active case total in the Swan City up to 131 as of the end of day Sunday.

The death was one of 17 reported to Alberta Health over the last 72 hours, and one of four in the North Zone. Of those deaths in the North Zone, Alberta Health says they were a man in his 30’s, a man in his 40’s, a female in her 80’s and a female in her 60’s.

A total of 3,188 Albertans have died from COVID-19 since March of last year, including 53 in the City of Grande Prairie and 11 in the County.

Meanwhile, in the County of Grande Prairie over the weekend, there were 12 new cases and six recoveries, bringing the active case total there to 72.

As a whole, Alberta added 429 new cases on Friday, 353 on Saturday and 286 on Sunday. Those new cases follow the completion of 21,752 tests over the three days, resulting in a 4.9 per cent positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of November 14 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 131 active (+8)

Across the province, hospitalizations declined by 35 to 519, with 100 of those patients in ICU, a decline of 10.

Of those admitted into intensive care with COVID-19, 86 are unvaccinated and 11 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, 74 people are in hospital (down nine), while seven people are in the ICU (up one).

In Grande Prairie, 73 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (60.6 per cent of the total population), while 66.7 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated (55.3 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 87.8 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 82.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
