New Horizon CO-OP holding carwash fundraiser for B.C. flood relief

Grande Prairie’s New Horizon Co-op is raising money from car washes to help support relief with the BC floods.

For every carwash at any of the five CO-OP carwash locations in the Swan City, $2 will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross BC flood relief.

New Horizon Co-op Marketing team leader Jody Peakman says they decided to fundraise for BC flood relief as many of their team members, customers, family, and friends are affected by the floods.

“Whether they’re stuck at their home, or they’ve had to be relocated temporarily due to (the floods), we felt as Co-op, it would be nice to step up and see what we could do,” she said.

“As a large company, we all have people that are affected by the BC floods, and (we) felt a strong desire to help raise money to help them out as well.”

With that, Peakman tells EverythingGP New Horizon Co-op will double the money raised from the carwash donations, up to $1,000.

Meaning, if $1,000 is raised from carwash donations between November 17 to 30, the New Horizon Co-op will donate an additional $1,000.

She says they also found out some exciting news Wednesday morning from the Federated Co-operative Limited (FCL).

“We found out that FCL will also match our donations up to $10,000,” Peakman added. “So, potentially we could be raising $4,000 all together.”

However, she says the hope is to rally together as much money as possible to donate towards BC flood relief.

Residents wanting to wash their car for the cause can head to any of the five New Horizon Co-op locations in the city.
