Storm hire Schmidt as Assistant Coach

The Grande Prairie Storm have hired Chris Schmidt as their new Assistant Coach.

Schmidt is originally from Beaverlodge and has been the Head Coach of the GPAC U18 AAA for the past five seasons.

Prior to coaching the AAA Storm, Schmidt played professional hockey from 1996-2013, spending time in the American Hockey League and Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).

Because he is a dual citizen, he was able to represent Germany at the World Hockey Championship multiple times and once at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

He was also the 111th overall pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1994 NHL Draft.

Schmidt will be behind the bench with current Head Coach Mike Vandekamp Friday night, when the Storm begin a two-game series against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
