NEW YORK — Calgary Flames left-wing Johnny Gaudreau has been named the NHL’s first star of the week.

Gaudreau led the league with seven points (four goals, three assists) in four games, including two game-winning goals, as Calgary went 3-0-1 last week and moved into first place in the Western Conference.

His week included the 39th three-point game of his career when he had two goals, including his 34th career game-winner, and an assist in Calgary’s 5-0 win over Buffalo on Thursday.

Washington goaltender Ilya Samsonov and Colorado defenceman Cale Makar were named the second and third stars respectively.

Samsonov stopped all 56 shots he faced across two starts, going 2-0-0 with two shutouts as the Capitals (11-3-5, 27 points) registered a 2-1-1 week to maintain second place in the Metropolitan Division.

Makar posted three goals and two assists in two games to power the Avalanche to a pair of victories, extending their winning streak to four games.
