Grande Prairie records 29 new COVID-19 cases, 20 recoveries over weekend

The City of Grande Prairie added 29 new cases of COVID-19 and 20 recoveries between Friday and Sunday, bringing the active case total in the Swan City up to 139.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 23 new cases and 20 recoveries Thursday, bringing the active case total there to 84.

As a whole, Alberta added 470 new cases on Friday, 386 new cases on Saturday and 269 new cases on Sunday. Those new cases followed the completion of 21,888 tests, resulting in a ~5.1 per cent positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of November 21 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 139 active (+9)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 84 active (+3)
  • MD of Greenview: seven active (-3)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: three active (+2)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 20 active (-6)
  • MD of Fairview: six active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: six active (+1)
  • Big Lakes County: 23 active (-6)
  • Clear Hills County: zero active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 13 active (+2)

Across the province, hospitalizations declined by 33 to 463, with 98 of those patients in the ICU, an increase of five from Thursday.

Of those in intensive care, 77 are unvaccinated and 11 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, 64 people are in hospital (down four), while nine people are in the ICU (up two).

There were six deaths reported to Alberta Health over the weekend, bringing the provincial death toll to 3,217.

In Grande Prairie, 73.5 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (61 per cent of the total population), while 67.7 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated (56.2 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 88.4 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 83.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
