Alberta QR code vaccine record updated for travel

Nov 23, 2021 | 5:29 PM

Starting November 24, Albertans planning to travel can download an updated vaccine record with a QR code to use both outside and within Canada.

The Government of Alberta says the vaccine record will be updated to meet recommended Canadian standards for domestic and international travel.

“We’re making it easier for Albertans to travel at home and abroad with an internationally recognized proof of vaccination,” said Health Minister Jason Copping.

The new vaccine card will now be in both French and English, and include Albertans’ middle names.

Officials say there is no need to get the updated vaccine record if they are not planning on traveling.

“Millions of vaccinated Albertans already have a secure QR vaccine record and they can still use it to safely enjoy activities within our province. An updated QR code will allow those who want to travel to quickly and easily provide proof of vaccination,” said Copping.

For those vaccinated outside the country, including international travellers, government officials say those individuals can use their out of country vaccine record along with a valid ID, such as a passport.

“Patrons vaccinated in other provinces and territories are required to use their jurisdictions’ vaccine records with a QR code, as other forms of records are no longer accepted in the REP,” said the Government of Alberta in a press release.

Those travelling interprovincial or internationally are asked to check on the Government of Alberta website to ensure they have all the required documents.
