Bezanson’s Aaron Peck returning to Evergreen Park with sled dog tours

Nov 24, 2021 | 12:18 PM

Aaron Peck and Elevation Sled Dogs are returning to Evergreen Park this holiday season.

Peck began doing sled dog tours at Evergreen Park during the COVID-19 pandemic last year. The tours were so successful he decided that he will do them again this year.

“Evergreen Park is kind of the grand central for all things animals, with winter, Christmas and the light show too, it also just seemed like a great place to be,” he explained.

“The trails are beautiful and we lack that out where our home base is (in Bezanson). We felt it would be more authentic to let people try dog sledding in a boreal forest.”

Peck and his dogs run professionally in the winter season. He and his dogs participate annually in the world-famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska in March.

According to Peck, the sled dog tours can be used as a good way to get his dogs in shape for the racing season.

“It definitely helps, the more they run and condition the better. Through the adventures we offer, they’re pulling myself or one of my guides, plus two people and maybe a child as well. So it’s quite a bit of weight pulling for the dogs, and they have built pretty good muscle mass through that exercise,” he explained.

“We’ve been conditioning since August and they pulled a quad in the offseason and build up slowly, just like a human ultra-runner would.”

He adds the dogs are also friendly with guests that partake in the tour.

“The socialization is really awesome too. We love to have our dogs to meet new people and interact. They’re super friendly jobs and they love to be pet and cuddled, and it’s a great opportunity for them to meet new people as well.”

Following the announcement of the sled dog tours last year, Peck says they sold out quickly and they had to make a waiting list.

There will be two different tours to select from this year, one will be during the day and the other at night. Each tour costs $250.

The sled dogs will run every day throughout December and the holiday season. The tours will then only occur on Saturdays and Sundays as of January 8.
