STORM - DOUG EDEY

Storm look to snap winless skid during special weekend

Nov 26, 2021 | 4:46 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm will look to snap a three-game winless skid when they open a three-game homestand on Friday night.

The Okotoks Oilers make their lone visit of the season to Grande Prairie for a 7 pm start on Friday.

That game will be followed by a visit from the Brooks Bandits on Saturday night at 6 pm.

Saturday night’s game, in partnership with Pattison Media, will be Doug Edey Night.

Doug has been a volunteer in the community for several decades and is a popular figure in the city.

Storm business manager Ryan Carter says there will be lots of surprises throughout Saturday night’s game, including his former classmate singing the national anthem.

“Doug went to school with Duane Steele, so when we reached out to Duane there was really no hesitation. He wanted to be involved. So he was very gracious to make his way up here, and he is very excited about the opportunity to be around that night.”

Steele has been nominated for a Juno award and won a CCMA.

Carter says they have wanted to honour Doug for quite some time.

“We have been talking about it for a while, and definitely think it is overdue. Doug has been an amazing volunteer for many local organizations. Anyone that has been to a Storm game sees how Doug is a fixture there and knows Doug and what a friendly person he is and what he brings to the community.”

Fans attending Saturday’s game are also encouraged to bring an item for the Big Country Toy Box and Rewind Radio’s Stuff-A-Bus.

The Storm will wrap up the homestand on Tuesday night when they host Whitecourt.
