The Sexsmith Secondary School Sabres football team became the second high school from the Peace Region to bring home a provincial title this weekend.

The Sabres defeated the W.R, Myers Rebels in the Alberta Tier IV championship 51-7 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton to earn their first provincial title since 1996.

Sexsmith had 333 yards in total offense on the afternoon. Sabres running back Teron Anderson had half of those offensive yards, rushing for 189 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

On Friday night the St. Joes Celtics also took home the Tier II provincial title, defeating the Holy Trinity Academy Knights from Okotoks 35-19 on the same field less than 24 hours ago.
