Crash north of Whitecourt leaves one person dead

Nov 29, 2021 | 9:28 AM

A person has died following a crash Thursday afternoon in Big Lakes County.

It was about 3:20 p.m on Nov. 25 when Swan Hills RCMP received a 911 call about a serious MVC involving two vehicles on Highway 32 near the Judy Creek Production Complex turnoff — about 62 kilometres north of Whitecourt and 20 kilometres south of Swan Hills.

Swan Hills RCMP, along with Whitecourt RCMP Traffic Services, and Alberta Sheriffs attended the scene.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a pick-up truck travelling northbound on Hwy 32 allegedly crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound pick-up truck hauling a trailer.

Despite life-saving efforts, the lone occupant of the northbound vehicle — a 27-year-old man from Cambridge, Ontario — died on scene. His name will not be released.

Two occupants of the other vehicle, a 63-year-old male driver from Olds, and a 24-year-old male passenger from Grande Prairie, were taken by EMS to local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further updates are anticipated.
