Charges against second accused in Ridgevalley-area incident withdrawn

Alberta Justice says all the charges against a second man charged after an incident in February that led to a hold and secure at Ridgevalley School have been withdrawn.

James Patrick Gosse had been facing counts that included arson, two of possession of stolen property over $5000, and four weapons charges.

He was due to stand trial November 10.

An email to EverythingGP from the Alberta Crown Prosecution Office says the prosecutor dropped the charges because there was not a reasonable likelihood of conviction.

Gosse and Michael Russel Charles Stemmler, both from Red Deer, were charged on February 3, 2021, after police got a report of a suspicious vehicle stuck in a field.

While on their way, Mounties were told that the vehicle had been set on fire and two men had run into some nearby woods.

Shots were heard while RCMP were tracking the pair. One surrendered right away, the other surrendered about an hour later.

Stemmler was given 12 months in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of arson – damage to property August 31. He was given an additional six months to cover two counts of possession of stolen property over $5000. Four firearms charges were withdrawn.

Charges dropped in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says all the charges against the two people arrested in a drugs and weapons bust in April of 2020 have been withdrawn.

The charges against Melissa Aletha Healy and Bruce Gary Tronsgard were withdrawn November 17 in Grande Prairie court. They were set to stand trial the same day.

An email to EverythingGP from the Alberta Crown Prosecution Office says the prosecutor dropped the charges because there was not a reasonable likelihood of conviction.

RCMP said at the time that police did a traffic stop on two vehicles parked in Clairmont. Two people in one of the vehicles were arrested.

Police seized what they called ” a small amount” of fentanyl, crystal meth., and crack cocaine, along with a sawed-off .22 rifle and a large Bowie knife.

Trial dates set in High Level murder

Alberta Justice says dates for a trial in a High Level murder have been set.

The trial for Jesse Beckles will take place from March 21 to April 1, 2022, in Peace River.

He was charged after the death of Nathan Kim on August 9, 2019.

Police said at the time Kim had been found shot in an alley near 105 Avenue and 98 Street in High Level and later died.

Beckles was arrested the next day.
