Grande Prairie Boys’ Choir gearing up for busy December

Dec 7, 2021 | 1:53 PM

The Grande Prairie Boys’ Choir is gearing up for a busy December, by rehearsing for their Christmas concert on December 10 and 11 at the Christian Fellowship Assembly.

Jeannie Pernal, the founder of the choir tells EverythingGP the last two years have been a struggle for them because of public health restrictions.

She adds they are happy to get back to doing what they love to do.

“We haven’t performed in two full years for a live audience. To say that it has been challenging would be an understatement,” she explained.

The choir is made up of 120 boys from the Grande Prairie area. Pernal says their goal for this year’s concert is to bring back some holiday joy to the community.

“Last year it was very sad. Making music brings people joy for the audience and the singers. That was completely missing last year. It was very tiring.”

“Our Christmas concert this year is a reflective, quiet and peaceful program to bring us back into the singing world and to bring people hope, peace and joy.”

Tickets for the concert can be purchased by emailing logistics@gpboyschoir.org. Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for seniors/students.

Pernal mentioned the choir is also looking to help out those in need this holiday season, so they have partnered up with the Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign.

“The Grande Prairie Boys’ Choir has partnered with the Salvation Army in supporting their kettle campaign, by volunteering to sit at various kettles located throughout the city,” she said.

“The best way the audience members can support the community is by donating to the Salvation Army kettle campaign.”

The Christmas concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on December 10 and 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on December 11.

The Christmas concert isn’t the only show the choir has been preparing for. On December 27, the choir will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with an EXTRAVAGANZA concert.

That concert will also feature choir alumnus Matthew Dalen, who is currently a professional opera singer living in Montreal. It is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
