Grande Prairie records four COVID-19 recoveries, one new case

The City of Grande Prairie recorded four COVID-19 recoveries along with one new case for December 6, bringing the active case total in the Swan City down to 52.

In the County Of Grande Prairie, there were two new cases and 11 recoveries identified bringing the total number of active cases down to 54.

Across the province, Alberta added 240 new cases on the completion of 5,478 tests, resulting in a 4.3 per cent test positivity rate. There are 4,105 active cases in the province.

There were no new cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant detected in the province. Currently, 11 Albertans have tested positive for the Omicron variant.

Active case totals, as of December 7 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 52 active (-3)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 54 active (-9)
  • MD of Greenview: seven active (-1)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: three active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (-)
  • MD of Peace: six active (-1)
  • MD of Fairview: one active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: three active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: eight active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: one active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: four active (-2)
  • Northern Sunrise County: five active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 28 active (-14)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by six to 373, with 76 of those patients in the ICU. Of those in the hospital, 174 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 56 of the 76 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 41 people are in hospital (down one), three of whom are in the ICU (down one).

There were five new deaths reported as a result of COVID-19, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,268.

In Grande Prairie, 67.8 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 62.2 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 84.5 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
