RCMP remove 91 impaired drivers from Alberta roads on December 4
Alberta RCMP removed 91 impaired drivers from provincial roads on Saturday, December 4, which marked National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
Police say of the 91 impaired motorists, 47 received Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) FAILs, and 26 individuals received IRS WARN. Meanwhile, 14 of the drivers held a GDL licence and were issued suspensions due to having blood alcohol concentrations greater than zero.
Whitecourt traffic services along with Alberta Sheriffs conducted a check stop, with roughly 300 vehicles, however, none had any provincial sanctions issued. However, officials say there was a firearm charge laid at the checkstop on December 4.
Police say National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day saw an increased number of mounties patrolling the roads across Canada, in an effort to promote safe and sober driving, members patrolled Alberta highways to target motorists under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
