A new person is sitting at the helm of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) board.

Health Minister Jason Copping appointed Gregory George Turnbull to a three-year term, effective Wednesday, December 8.

“Health is a people business, and Mr. Turnbull’s genuine care and consideration for staff and patients, along with his organizational expertise, will strengthen Alberta’s health-care system,” says Copping. “I thank him for taking on this key leadership role at a critical time, all members of the AHS board, and all front-line healthcare workers for their ongoing dedication.”

Turnbull comes into the role with more than 35 years of experience in corporate governance.

He is currently a member of the Advisory Council at the School of Public Policy and the Dean’s Advisory Council at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine.

Turnbull has also acted as director, officer, and counsel to various boards and committees in the medical sector.

“I’m humbled and privileged to join the Alberta Health Services team and have the opportunity to support and champion Alberta’s outstanding healthcare providers,” says Turnbull.

“They are the foundation of our healthcare system and are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of every Albertan with care and compassion. I thank Minister Copping for his faith in me, and will work hard to ensure health providers have the support and resources they need to respond to the pandemic and to meet the other healthcare needs of Albertans.”

The appointment of Turnbull comes at the end of the ongoing chair David Weyant.
