Investigation underway following house fire in Smith subdivision

The Grande Prairie Fire Department says nobody was home at the time of a house fire in the city just after midnight.

Firefighters were called in just after midnight to a house fire on 100 Avenue in the Smith subdivision.

RCMP first noticed the blaze and notified the fire department.

The fire started in the basement and the house was full of smoke when firefighters arrived.

There were no injuries but the fire department says damage was significant.

The investigation continues.
