Dec 14, 2021 | 3:47 PM

UPDATE: The extreme cold warning for the Peace Region has ended.

The entire Peace Region and most of northern Alberta have been placed under an extreme cold warning by Environment Canada.

This includes the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area.

The weather office says temperatures in some Peace Region areas are expected to drop to minus 30 celsius overnight, with the windchill having it feel closer to minus 40.

They add to watch for cold-related symptoms, like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes, as frostbite can develop in a matter of minutes in such temperatures.

Wednesday is expected to see a high of minus 22 with snow, while Thursday will see a high of minus 23 with the low potentially dropping to minus 36. Friday is expected to have a daytime high of minus 25.
