Trial ordered in Fort Vermilion murder

Alberta Justice says the accused in a Fort Vermilion murder has been ordered to stand trial.

Trial dates for Sandra Louise Wapoose of John D’or Prairie have not been set. She was charged after the October 2019 death of 57-year-old Barry Lizotte of Fort Vermilion.

RCMP at the time said they were called to a home in the community around 10:30 p.m. where they found a man dead outside. A suspect was arrested at the scene.

Trial date set in Valleyview stolen property investigation

Alberta Justice says trial dates have been set for three of the four people charged after a stolen property arrest in the Valleyview area.

The trial for Scott Allan Gervais, Stephanie Catherine Payou, and Keyva Griko is set for April 7, 2022, in Valleyview court.

They were charged after an October 20, 2020, search of a property south of Valleyview. RCMP said at the time that five loaded firearms, 11 grams of methamphetamine, and more than $5000 in stolen property were all seized.

A warrant remains out for a fourth person charged. Russell Gene Knight failed to show up for a court appearance scheduled for December 17, 2020.

Preliminary hearing date set in Peace Region kidnapping

Alberta Justice says a preliminary hearing date has been set for two people charged after a kidnapping near McLennan earlier this year.

The hearing for Muktar Ali of Nampa and Samantha Linnea Camber of Girouxville is set for April 12, 2022.

McLennan RCMP said at the time that on August 23, 2021, at around 11:30 a.m., Mounties spotted some suspicious vehicles near Highway 49 and Range Road 24.

Police believed that one of the vehicles had been used in connection with other crimes. Two suspects were arrested on scene.

Ali and Camber both face charges that include kidnapping while using a firearm, use of a restricted firearm to commit a robbery, uttering threats, and using violence to steal a firearm.

RCMP did not include any details about the kidnapping investigation.
