Preliminary hearing date set in Gift Lake murder case

Alberta Justice says a preliminary hearing will be held next November for the accused in a murder at Gift Lake Metis Settlement.

The hearing for Tara Rita Auger is set for November 16 through 18, 2022, in High Prairie court.

She was charged after the death in May of this year of 48-year-old Russell Lawrence Lamouche.

Mounties say on May 19, 2021, just before 7 p.m. they got a call from a neighbouring home about an intoxicated woman at another home causing a disturbance.

Police got a report of a stabbing happening at the same home while en route.

When they arrived, RCMP found a man wounded and unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Trial date set in assault at Peavine Metis Settlement

Alberta Justice says a trial will be held November 15, 2022, for the man charged after an assault in November at Peavine Metis Settlement.

The charges against Jared Calliou include assault with a weapon and two firearms counts.

High Prairie RCMP said that on November 7, 2021, they were called to a complaint of an assault.

While en route, they spotted the suspect in the assault and tried to do a traffic stop, but the suspect took off.

More attempts to pull the vehicle over resulted in the suspect pointing what Mounties call a long barrel rifle out a window in what police believe was an attempt to shoot at them.

The Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services were called in but could not locate the suspect.

Calliou was arrested by the High Prairie RCMP Drug Unit on November 9.
