Sexsmith and area food banking distributing 120 food hampers to area residents

Dec 15, 2021 | 8:31 AM

Volunteers from the Sexsmith and Area Food Bank will be delivering their annual food hampers to those in need on Wednesday, December 15.

Darryl Parley, the Vice President of the Sexsmith and Area Food Bank says a team of volunteers has been working on building these food hampers for the last four weeks thanks to donations from the community.

He tells EverythingGP the food hampers feature everything someone in need could use for the holidays.

“They consist of all non-perishable foods, toys we sort through (for the kids) and people also donate lots of gift cards, so lots of the kids can get their own gift that they are looking for,” he explained.

Parley added this holiday season, the donations from the community have allowed them to help 120 different families and individuals in need.

“We have been doing this for several years now. We are looking forward to Wednesday to distribute these hampers and it is a great day to be a part of,” Parley explained. “We distribute out as far as Bezanson, Teepee Creek, Sexsmith, Clairmont and Webster. That is basically the group of people we serve.

Parley could not specify if it was more families or individuals receiving the food hampers, but he did say they thought they would have to make a few more hampers because of the demand from the pandemic.

A lot of credit for the donations for the hampers is from the Town of Sexsmith’s “Reverse Santa Claus Parade”.

Parley tells EverythingGP he is grateful to be a part of the day.

“It is just a great day to give to the community and really uplifting for us in being able to be a part of a blessing for others in the Christmas season.”
