Grande Prairie records four new COVID-19 cases, three recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded four new COVID-19 cases and three recoveries for December 14. There are currently 47 active cases in the Swan City.

The County of Grande Prairie recorded three recoveries and two new cases for Wednesday. There are 32 active cases in that region.

Alberta added 473 new cases on the completion of 9,595 tests, resulting in a 4.9 per cent test positivity rate. There are 4,212 active cases in the province. Of the 473 new cases, 59 of them were from the Omicron variant, the biggest one-day increase of Omicron cases in the province to date.

Active case totals, as of December 14 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 47 active (+1)

  • MD of Spirit River: three active (+1)

  • Clear Hills County: one active (-)

Across the province, hospitalizations fell to 352 (down ten), with 70 of those patients in the ICU (down one). Of those in the hospital, 160 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 50 of the 70 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 41 people are in hospital (down five), three of whom are in the ICU (down one).

There were no new deaths reported, one was removed after it was determined COVID-19 was not the cause of death. The province’s COVID-19 death toll sits at 3,285.

In Grande Prairie, 68.5 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 62.9 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89.4 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
