Grande Prairie Salvation Army still in need of Christmas kettle donations

Dec 16, 2021 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Salvation Army says it is still in need of donations for its Christmas Kettle Campaign.

Executive director Captain Peter Kim says as of Wednesday, $248,000 had been collected, less than half of this year’s goal of $575,000.

“So, we’re not even halfway, and with (just over a week) left in the campaign we’re just hoping [people will get helping us out and supporting the Salvation Army and feeding those who are in need in our community.”

He adds the campaign pays for services for the entire year.

“We want to ensure that we are upholding that same quality of service and make sure that everyone is taken care of throughout the year because need doesn’t just happen during Christmas, it happens all year round.”

Kim says the campaign is still short of volunteers.

“We have been calling on some of our other volunteers who have been doing extra shifts and (they are) really amazing volunteers.”

“We are asking the community to step up for volunteering as well. We’ve even had to shut down one location because we don’t have enough volunteers.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the Salvation Army office at 780-532-3720.

The campaign runs through Christmas Eve.

Donations can be made at kettle locations at various businesses around the community or online.
