Grande Prairie records four new COVID-19 cases, three recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded four new COVID-19 cases and three recoveries for December 15. There are currently 48 active cases in the Swan City.

The County of Grande Prairie remained at 32 active cases over the last 24 hours.

Alberta added 553 new cases on the completion of 9,694 tests, resulting in a 5.7 per cent test positivity rate. There are 4,431 active cases in the province.

Of the 553 new cases, 54 of them were from the Omicron variant. To date, there have been 12 Omicron cases reported in the North Zone.

Active case totals, as of December 15 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 48 active (+1)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 32 active (-)
  • MD of Greenview: zero active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: seven active (+4)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 14 active (+1)
  • MD of Fairview: two active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: one active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: nine active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: one active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: zero active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: three active (-1)
  • Mackenzie County: 14 active (-2)

Across the province, hospitalizations fell to 344 (down eight), with 68 of those patients in the ICU (down two). Of those in the hospital, 153 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 52 of the 70 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 42 people are in hospital (up one), three of whom are in the ICU (same).

There was one new death reported as a result of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,286.

In Grande Prairie, 68.5 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 62.9 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89.4 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.1 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
