Grande Prairie records seven new COVID-19 cases, ten recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded seven new COVID-19 cases and ten recoveries from December 17-19, bringing the active case count in the city down to 45.

The County of Grande Prairie remained at 32 active cases over the weekend.

Alberta as a whole added 1,925 new cases following the completion of 21,277 tests, resulting in a 9.0 per cent test positivity rate. There are 5,652 active cases in the province.

Of the 1,925 new cases identified in the province, 872 of them were the Omicron variant.

Active case totals, as of December 19 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 45 active (-3)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 32 active (-)
  • MD of Greenview: zero active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: nine active (+2)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 10 active (-4)
  • MD of Fairview: three active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: one active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: eight active (-1)
  • Clear Hills County: one active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: two active (+2)
  • Northern Sunrise County: two active (-1)

Across the province, hospitalizations fell to 324 (down 20), with 69 of those patients in the ICU (down two). Of those in the hospital, 145 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 56 of the 70 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 35 people are in hospital (down seven), four of whom are in the ICU (up one).

There were six new deaths reported as a result of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,292.

In Grande Prairie, 68.7 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 63.1 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89.4 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated
