COVID-19 booster shots now available to all Albertans aged 18 and older
The Government of Alberta has announced effective immediately, all Albertans aged 18 and older will be able to receive their booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Booster doses are allowed to be administered five months after an individual 18 and older receives their second dose of vaccine.
The government made the announcement as the Omicron COVID-19 variant begins to spread rapidly in the province. The severity of the Omicron variant is not yet known, but it is clear that there is an increased risk of transmission. The third dose is expected to help protect an individual from the variant.
“There is still a lot that we don’t know about Omicron. But one thing we do know is that the most powerful protection from this highly contagious variant is to get a booster shot. I urge all Albertans to step up and protect themselves and the health-care system with a booster as soon as they can,” said Premier Jason Kenney in a release.
