Grande Prairie records three new COVID-19 cases, five recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded three new COVID-19 cases and five recoveries from December 20, bringing the active case count in the city down to 43.

The County of Grande Prairie added six new and three recoveries of COVID-19, bringing the active case total to 35 in that region.

Alberta as a whole added 786 new cases following the completion of 7,305 tests, resulting in a 10.8 per cent test positivity rate. There are 6,045 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of December 20 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 43 active (-2)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 35 active (+3)
  • MD of Greenview: zero active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: twelve active (+3)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 12 active (+2)
  • MD of Fairview: three active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: one active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: six active (-2)
  • Clear Hills County: zero active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: two active (-)

Across the province, hospitalizations raised to 329 (up five), with 69 of those patients in the ICU (same). Of those in the hospital, 140 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 56 of the 69 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 39 people are in hospital (up four), six of whom are in the ICU (up two).

There were two new deaths reported as a result of COVID-19 in the province, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,294.

In Grande Prairie, 68.8 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 63.1 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 84.9 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
