City officials highlight 2021 captial construction year

City officials are celebrating what they call another successful capital construction year.

Over the course of 2021, administration says in a release many projects were taken on in an effort to help build and improve infrastructure and amenities throughout the Swan City.

“The City strategically invested $85.9 million in capital projects that support the entire community and enhance the quality of life for residents,” said local officials in a release.

“The projects also create longevity and sustainability of services by improving existing infrastructure, enhancing recreation, and providing space for key services needed in the community.”

Key projects from 2021:

  • Activity & Reception Centre
  • North Bike Skills Park
  • Coordinated Care Campus
  • Downtown Streetscapes and Rehabilitation Project
  • Maskwoteh Park Pedestrian Bridge

Other projects in 2021:

  • 23 km of road improvements
  • 42 new pedestrian crossing signal poles at 16 locations
  • 21 km of storm pipe inspections
  • 6.7 km of sidewalk improvements
  • 3.7 km of trails replaced

The City says some of the projects were made possible through provincial and federal grants, including some projects, were made possible through provincial and federal grants.

“$31.7 million, of which $15.5 million was one-time emergency COVID-19 stimulus funding focused on investing in infrastructure and creating jobs.”
