Grande Prairie records six COVID-19 recoveries, adds three new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded three new COVID-19 cases along with six recoveries for December 22, dropping the total number of active cases in the Swan City to 39.

In the County of Grande Prairie there were four new cases recorded two recoveries, bringing the active case total up to 37..

Alberta as a whole added 1,625 new cases following the completion of 11,871 tests, resulting in a 13.6 per cent test positivity rate. There are 8,359 active cases in the province.

Active case totals, as of December 22 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 39 active (-3)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 37 active (+2)
  • MD of Greenview: zero active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 20 active (+4)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 12 active (+2)
  • MD of Fairview: four active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: one active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: five active (-1)
  • Clear Hills County: zero active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: three active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: two active (-)

Across the province, hospitalizations fell to 318 (down eight), with 64 of those patients in the ICU (down one). Of those in the hospital, 139 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 49 of the 64 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 37 people are in hospital (down two), five of whom are in the ICU (same).

There were no new COVID-19 deaths reported on Wednesday.

In Grande Prairie, 63.8 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 63.2 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.

Over the Christmas break, the province will post modified COVID-19 numbers which include general numbers and tests completed. Fully detailed data will be made available on December 29, which will include cases from December 24-28.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, also mentioned she will provide live updates on December 28 and 30.

She added the updates could change depending on how the situation is unfolding in the province.
