An extreme cold warning has been issued by Environment Canada for the Grande Prairie area.

This includes the City and County of Grande Prairie, M.D. of Greenview, and all the way north to Mackenzie County.

Temperatures in the region are expected to reach highs in the mid minus 20s and drop to lows close to minus 40 for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A high of minus 34 is being predicted for Boxing Day Sunday.

Environment Canada reminds people to dress for the weather and be prepared if travelling on the roads.
