Update: Extreme cold warning ends for Grande Prairie region

Update: December 28: The extreme cold warning has ended for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area, as well as the Hinton Grande Cache area.

Update December 27 at 11:43: Environment Canada says wind chills between minus 40 and minus 55 are expected to continue throughout the day on December 27.

The weather office says these extreme cold conditions could persist into next weekend in areas of northern Alberta.

Environment Canada says all of Alberta and most of British Columbia and Saskatchewan, along with parts of Manitoba and Ontario are under extreme cold weather warnings.

Update December 27 at 6:43 a.m: Environment Canada says wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 50 are expected again Monday morning.

The entire Peace Region along with the rest of Alberta has once again been placed under an extreme cold warning by Environment Canada, December 26.

This includes the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area.

Wind chills between minus 40 and minus 55 are expected again overnight Sunday.

The weather office says areas of northern Alberta are expected to experience a prolonged period of extreme cold conditions. These conditions of extreme cold could persist into next weekend.

Environment Canada reminds residents to cover up if going outside, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin.

“If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.”

There is also an extreme cold warning out for the BC Peace region, overnight lows of minus 30 as well as extreme wind chills near minus 40 are expected.
