COVID-19 quarantine time reduced for fully vaccinated Albertans

Alberta has announced that fully vaccinated individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will only need the quarantine for five days as opposed to the 10 days that was previously required.

Those who are fully vaccinated have had to have two shots of a COVID-19 vaccine, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson.

If you are unvaccinated and have tested positive for COVID-19 must still quarantine for 10 days.

Anyone who still has symptoms after the recommended quarantine time are asked to remain isolated until their symptoms have resolved.

These new measures are in line with what other provinces in Canada are doing, as well as follows recommendations from the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) in the United States.

With New Year’s Eve being tonight, public health officials are asking the public to keep gathering limits small.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the chief medical officer of health for the province warned people if they are gathering somewhere tonight, somebody is likely infectious with COVID-19.

“Wherever you go and whatever you do, you should anticipate that one or more people in present in any location will be infectious with Omicron, even if they don’t have symptoms. Make decisions and take precautions based on that assumption and the knowledge that action now is critical to protecting our healthcare system in the coming months.”

No new restrictions were added on New Year’s Eve.

The province says there are currently an estimated 21,000 active cases in the province, however, mentioned they will not be updating daily numbers until January 4 because of the long weekend.
