Best of Alberta Curling Championship 50/50 hoping to support local curling clubs

Jan 4, 2022 | 1:30 PM

Curling Alberta and the Grande Prairie Curling Centre are hoping they can play a big role in helping curling in the province get back on its feet post-pandemic.

The two organizations have launched the Best of Alberta Curling Championship 50/50.

Jill Richard, Executive Director for Curling Alberta, says the money they raise from the 50/50 will go and support curling centres and teams throughout the province.

“Proceeds from this raffle will be shared between the Grande Prairie Curling Centre and Curling Alberta. So the really nice thing is that supporters can have the opportunity to win some really big cash prizes, but also support the Grande Prairie Curling Centre as well.”

Just like the Calgary curling bubble in 2021, fans from across the province will be able to purchase 50/50 tickets online and don’t have to be in attendance at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.

“You don’t have to be in the building to participate,” explained Richard. “Tickets will be on sale every game day from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Alberta time. The draw for the winning ticket will take place once the sales are closed.”

The Calgary curling bubble played host to most of this nation’s biggest curling events of the season. With so many people tuning in from across the country to watch the draws, Richard mentioned they were able to raise over $600,000 for curling programs across Alberta.

“During the 2021 Calgary curling bubble, our ticket sales topped $1.2 million. We had 58 draws over four months. Through those raffles, our winners took home over $600,000. The proceeds definitely will be used to support grassroots curling across the province, with special focus making sure we are supporting our clubs, youth programs and seniors as well.”
