Grande Prairie RCMP promote safety with Report-A-John program

Jan 5, 2022 | 5:00 AM

The Grande Prairie RCMP is reminding residents of crime prevention and risk reduction programs including, the Report-A-John program.

Sgt. Shawn Graham with the Grande Prairie RCMP says at times, suspicious behaviour has been reported within the community that is related to the sex trade, also known as “John” activity.

“The Report-A-John program has been around for a while. We just want to highlight the different programs we have in the detachment and programs that we run so this is one we wanted to remind the public that it is out there.”

He adds the goal of having and highlighting these programs is in an effort to keep the Grande Prairie community safe.

“With these types of activities or behaviours it would be important for the community to contact the police and let us know about it,’ Graham explained.

Graham tells EverythingGP it is important to know and recognize the signs of “John” activity, which includes:

“Anyone who propositions someone or pays for sexual services, repeated drives by a location for a sexual purpose, slowing down to observe or proposition a person, dropping off a known sex trade worker, parking and watching sex trade workers.”

Graham added if suspicious behaviour is seen in local neighbourhoods, it is important to keep note of the location, date and time of occurrence, vehicle information, a description of the offender as well as a description of the “John” activity.
