Grande Prairie adds 32 new COVID-19 cases, Alberta records 6,789

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 32 new COVID-19 cases along with 16 recoveries for January 10, bringing the active number of cases to 303 (up 16).

The County of Grande Prairie added 18 new cases and seven recoveries over the past 24 hours. It now has 137 active cases (up 11).

Across Alberta, 6,789 new cases were identified from 17,815 tests taken, resulting in a test positivity rate of 38.1 per cent. There are now 61,229 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 11 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 287 active (+16)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 137 active (+11)
  • MD of Greenview: 50 active (+3)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 13 active (+3)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 56 active (+3)
  • MD of Fairview: 15 active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 12 active (+1)
  • Big Lakes County: 53 active (+8)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (+1)
  • County of Northern Lights: six active (+1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: six active (+)
  • Mackenzie County: 56 active (+8)

Across the province, hospitalizations increased to 748 (up 40), with 82 of those patients in the ICU (up two). Of those in the hospital, 224 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 54 of the 82 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 70 people are in hospital (up three), five of whom are in the ICU (same).

Fifteen new deaths were reported Tuesday as a result of COVID-19. 3,367 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

To date, 89.6 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.6 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
