Grande Prairie adds 28 new COVID-19 cases, nine recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases along with nine recoveries for January 12, bringing the active number of cases to 322 (up 19).

The County of Grande Prairie added four new cases and eight recoveries over the past 24 hours. It now has 133 active cases (down four).

Across Alberta, 6,010 new cases were identified from 14,350 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 40.9 per cent. There are now 62,733 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 12 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 322 active (+19)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 133 active (-4)
  • MD of Greenview: 46 active (-4)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 13 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 51 active (-5)
  • MD of Fairview: 15 active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 12 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 62 active (+9)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: eight active (+2)

Across the province, hospitalizations increased to 786 (up 48), with 79 of those patients in the ICU (down three). Of those in the hospital, 235 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 55 of the 79 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 68 people are in hospital (down two), five of whom are in the ICU (same).

Eight new deaths were reported Tuesday as a result of COVID-19. 3,375 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

To date, 89.7 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.7 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
