Grande Prairie adds 44 new COVID-19 cases, 25 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 44 new COVID-19 cases along with 25 recoveries for January 13, bringing the active number of cases to 342 (up 20).

The County of Grande Prairie added 14 new cases and 29 recoveries over the past 24 hours. It now has 118 active cases (down 15).

Across Alberta, 6,163 new cases were identified from 16,541 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 37.2 per cent. There are now 64,129 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 13 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 342 active (+20)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 118 active (-15)
  • MD of Greenview: 47 active (+1)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 12 active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 52 active (+1)
  • MD of Fairview: 17 active (+2)
  • MD of Smoky River: 12 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 65 active (+3)
  • Clear Hills County: six active (+1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 12 active (+4)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eight active (+1)
  • Mackenzie County: 60 active (+7)

Across the province, hospitalizations increased to 822 (up 23), with 81 of those patients in the ICU (up two). Of those in the hospital, 250 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 53 of the 81 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 66 people are in hospital (down two), five of whom are in the ICU (same).

Five new deaths were reported Tuesday as a result of COVID-19. 3,380 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

To date, 89.7 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.7 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses. There have been 1.2 million Albertans who’ve received a third dose of vaccine.

The province has also announced it has administered over eight million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
