More amenities coming to Veterans Memorial Gardens after $99,000 grant

A post on the Veterans Memorial Park, Grande Prairie Facebook page says it will be a high-tech, small event venue by the middle of May.

It has been given a Cultural and Community Spaces Safe Re-Opening Grant worth just over $99,000 that will allow it to buy live streaming equipment and to create outdoor classrooms.

Spokesperson Renee Charbonneau says this is connected to another grant that was used to buy 30 pergolas for a walkway.

“This grant allows us the ability to bring power, internet, and all of the AV plug-ins we need to the pergolas so that we can then run cabling up and over to mount TVs and extra speakers.”

She adds they would be able to have two outdoor classrooms going at once or it could be just one big one.

“This area will actually be for when we have teachers that would like to have an outdoor classroom and be able to work outdoors.”

“If we have kids coming through on a field trip, we can set the classroom up and be able to actually have them engage with our education kits out in the gardens instead of inside the facility,” she explained.

Charbonneau says they will also install QR codes on some of their panels so people can see videos and extra content above what is already included at the gardens.

She mentioned this grant also means they will also be able to get some equipment needed for live streaming.

“What that means for us is that indoors, we’ll have the ability to live stream if someone is doing a book reading or doing something with courses, whatever,” she said.

“But also, we’ll have live streaming equipment for outside.”

Some of the grant money will also be sued for a new HVAC unit.

Charbonneau says the long-term plan for the Veterans Garden has always been that it be a place for the community.
