STARS lottery launches its 29th edition

Jan 21, 2022 | 11:14 AM

A major yearly fundraiser for the three STARS Air Ambulance bases in Alberta – including one here in Grande Prairie – is now underway.

Tickets for the 29th annual STARS Lottery went on sale earlier this week.

Glenda Farnden, the Senior Municipal Relations Liasion with STARS in Grande Prairie, says the lottery is an important piece in helping them meet their goal of saving lives.

“The STARS lottery supports our Alberta operations, in order to be able to save those lives.”

“Since 1985, we have proudly flown more than 45 thousand missions,” she said. “This means that thousands of Albertans have been touched by STARS, including patients, their families, friends, and local communities like Grande Prairie.”

She adds Albertans have made the lottery a success for more than two decades.

“(The lottery) has raised over 11 million dollars net annually for our operations in Alberta.”

“STARS flies an average of five missions a day from our three Alberta bases in Calgary, Edmonton, and Grande Prairie. Over the last year in Alberta, we have flown over 14 hundred missions,” Farnden explained.

Over 25 hundred prizes worth a combined $4.8 million are up for grabs this year, including three grand prizes of fully-furnished dream homes in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge.

Farnden adds they also have a new prize for this year’s lottery.

“The Bon Voyage bonus prize is a one-hundred thousand dollar travel voucher, plus $50,000 in cash, or you can take $125,000 cash total. But in order to get in on that, you have to purchase your tickets before February 16th.”

Also back this year is the early bird draw for a lakeside mountain retreat package, with the deadline for that draw being March 3.

And the Lucky STARS 50/50 draw is also back for another year.

Last year’s winner of that took home over $3.25 million, and organizers say it could grow as high as 4.5 million dollars this year.

Tickets for the main draw are $30 each, four for $75, eight for $125, twenty for $275, or thirty-five tickets for $400.

Tickets for the Lucky STARS 50/50 are $10 each, five for $25, 15 for $50, thirty for $75, or fifty for $100.
