Grant Berg Gallery set to launch first exhibition in nearly two years

The Grant Berg Gallery in Grande Prairie is kicking off 2022 by showcasing community pride through a local artist who wants to show the city through new eyes.

Gallery Owner Grant Berg says on January 27, they will begin showcasing the exhibition Pasigarbo by Julius Miraflor.

“Julius is of Filipino descent and moved from the Philippines, and what Pasigarbo means is having a sense of pride and something to be proud of, and Julius has been painting iconic Grande Prairie scenes for the past couple of years, and they really stand out, and people are really making a connection to them.”

Paintings from the Pasigarbo exhibition include the train trestle and mini-putt at Muskoseepi Park, Dunvegan scenes including the Dunvegan Bridge, downtown Grande Prairie, along with other notable scenes from the Swan City.

After roughly two years of putting exhibitions on hold due to the pandemic, Berg explains their goal for 2022 is to get back to as close to normal as possible under the current conditions.

“It’s great because quite literally, we reopened in our new 214 Place mid-January and didn’t even get settled in and unpacked before COVID hit, so we were actually settled down for a couple of months,” he said.

He suggests the paintings are wonderful for anyone who enjoys the beauty of the Peace Region, but also for anyone who may be moving and wants a memory piece of the Grande Prairie region.

“We’ve actually had a few of these given away over the past year to people that are leaving Grande Prairie as a nice little reminder, including Mayor Bill Given, he’s received one of Julius’s paintings,” he explained.

There are roughly 20 paintings in the Pasigarbo exhibition, which runs from January 27 to February 19.
