Grande Prairie records 46 new COVID-19 cases, 48 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 46 new cases of COVID-19 for January 25, along with 48 recoveries, there are now 370 active cases in the city (down two).

Meantime, the County of Grande Prairie recorded 14 new COVID-19 cases along with eight recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 108 (up six).

Across Alberta, 3,341 new cases were identified from 9,000 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 37 per cent. There are now 47,743 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 25 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 370 active (-2)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 108 active (+6)
  • MD of Greenview: 62 active (+9)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: eight active (+4)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 82 active (+16)
  • MD of Fairview: 14 active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: nine active (-1)
  • Big Lakes County: 78 active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: eight active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 15 active (+3)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 24 active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 41 active (-3)

The province saw hospitalizations increase to 1,418 (up 41), while ICU patients dropped by two to 109. Of those in the hospital, 349 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 52 of the 109 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 83 people are in hospital (up two), five of whom are in the ICU (up one).

Alberta Health reported an additional 22 deaths over the last 24 hours, there have now been 3,505 deaths as a result of COVID-19 in Alberta.

To date, 89.7 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.9 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
