Grande Prairie records 21 new COVID-19 cases, 41 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 21 new cases of COVID-19 for January 25, along with 41 recoveries, there are now 350 active cases in the city (down 20).

Meantime, the County of Grande Prairie recorded six new COVID-19 cases along with four recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 110 (up two).

Across Alberta, 3,218 new cases were identified from 9,352 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 34 per cent. There are now 44,301 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 26 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 350 active (-20)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 110 active (+2)
  • MD of Greenview: 64 active (+2)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: nine active (+1)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 83 active (+1)
  • MD of Fairview: 15 active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: nine active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 74 active (-4)
  • Clear Hills County: seven active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 13 active (-2)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 26 active (+2)
  • Mackenzie County: 45 active (+4)

The province saw hospitalizations increase to 1,469 (up 51), while ICU patients dropped by two to 106. Of those in the hospital, 370 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 54 of the 106 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 86 people are in hospital (up three), six of whom are in the ICU (up one).

Alberta Health reported an additional 13 deaths over the last 24 hours, there have now been 3,518 deaths as a result of COVID-19 in Alberta.

To date, 89.7 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
