Grande Prairie records 118 new COVID-19 cases, 54 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 118 new cases of COVID-19 from January 28-30, along with 54 recoveries. There are now 427 active cases in the city, up 59 from the last update.

The County of Grande Prairie recorded 43 new COVID-19 cases along with 12 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 160, up 31.

Across Alberta, 6,534 new cases were identified from 19,349 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 33.7 per cent. There are currently 37,468 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 30 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 427 active (+59)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 160 active (+31)
  • MD of Greenview: 93 active (+27)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 15 active (+3)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 87 active (+7)
  • MD of Fairview: 20 active (+5)
  • MD of Smoky River: 26 active (+14)
  • Big Lakes County: 81 active (+11)
  • Clear Hills County: seven active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 12 active (-)

The province saw hospitalizations increase to 1,516, up 20, while ICU patients dropped by six to 99. Of those in the hospital, 390 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 47 of the 99 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 99 people are in hospital, up 11, seven of whom are in the ICU (up one).

There were 35 deaths reported over the last three days. Since the start of the pandemic 3,566 Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19.

To date, 89.8 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.1 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
