Grande Prairie adds 41 new COVID-19 cases, 22 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 41 new cases of COVID-19 for January 31, along with 22 recoveries, there are now 446 active cases in the city (up 19).

The County of Grande Prairie recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases along with 10 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 166 (up five).

Across Alberta, 1,980 new cases were identified from 5,012 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 39.5 per cent. There are currently 35,322 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of January 31 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 446 active (+19)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 165 active (+5)
  • MD of Greenview: 86 active (-7)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 16 active (+1)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 85 active (-2)
  • MD of Fairview: 23 active (+3)
  • MD of Smoky River: 32 active (+6)
  • Big Lakes County: 77 active (-4)
  • Clear Hills County: seven active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 13 active (+1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 24 active (-5)
  • Mackenzie County: 57 active (+8)

The province saw hospitalizations increase to 1,585 (up 69), while ICU patients increased by 10 to 109. Of those in the hospital, 405 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 55 of the 109 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 107 people are in hospital (up eight), seven of whom are in the ICU (same).

To date, 89.8 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.1 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
