Grande Prairie records 29 new COVID-19 cases, 44 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 29 new COVID-19 cases and 44 recoveries for February 10. There are now 420 active cases in the city (down 15).

The County of Grande Prairie added one new case along with 14 recoveries on Thursday. It now has 149 active cases (down 13).

Across Alberta, 1,400 new cases were identified from 4,742 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 29.5 per cent. There are currently 24,154 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 10 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 420 active (-15)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 149 active (-13)
  • MD of Greenview: 77 active (-5)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 8 active (-4)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 121 active (+14)
  • MD of Fairview: 34 active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 77 active (+1)
  • Big Lakes County: 108 active (+8)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 19 active (+7)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 17 active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 73 active (-3)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by 20 patients to 1,566, while 127 of those patients in the ICU (up one). Of those in the hospital, 413 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 52 of the 127 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 130 people are in hospital (down four), eight of whom are in the ICU (same).

There were 23 COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,741. Of the 23 deaths, 10 were from the North Zone.

So far, 90 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.3 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
