New T-bar set to open at Nitehawk

Feb 11, 2022 | 11:11 AM

Friday will be a big day at Nitehawk, as the ski hill will officially open its new T-bar lift.

Nitehawk General Manager Johnathan Clarkson says there was a lot of work to be done.

“We started construction on the T-bar lift roughly around September 24. (That) was when we got the go-ahead,” Clarkson explained. “We’ve been working on it since then, so just a little over four months from start to finish. So, really proud of our team for all the work they did”

The T-bar lift was installed at the ski hill after a landslide in May 2020 whipped out the foundation of their chairlift.

Clarkson tells EverythingGP municipalities and the communities played a big role in getting the lift up and running.

“We had a lot of support from countless businesses just in terms of making this project happen on such a short timeline,” Clarkson said.

“I don’t want to go through listing them all, but there were countless local businesses and suppliers that helped us get the parts that we needed and all the things that needed to come together to make this project happen.”

Clarkson calls the installation of the T-bar an “interim solution” while the chair lift remains out of operation.

“Our board of directors is working towards plans on hopefully getting the chair lift back installed or some format of a chair lift re-installed at some point here. Obviously, there is going to be a lot of work and planning that goes into making that happen.”

Clarkson estimates the total cost will come in at between $900,000 and $1 million.

The ski hill is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. tonight. The Tube Zone is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.and 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
