Passionate Heart Awards winners celebrated and recognized

The City of Grande Prairie was able to recognize six individuals and three organizations for their hard work in the community over the last year.

The 16th annual Passionate Heat Awards were handed out virtually on Valentines Day and is meant to celebrate people, teams and businesses that make a difference in their communities by enhancing social services or generally improving quality of life in the region.

The awards were handed out to the nine lucky winners.

Passionate Heart Exceptional Service Award:

  • Alpha-Dawn Campbell, Librarian & Educational Assistant, Beaverlodge Elementary School – Peace Wapiti School Division.
  • Debbie Hammel, Junior Kindergarten Teacher, Robert W Zahara Public School – Peace Wapiti School Division
  • Janine Gummesen, Grade 6 Teacher, Ecole Montrose – Grande Prairie Public School Division.
  • Melody Sample, Wellness Coordinator – Town of Sexsmith.
  • Sheila Payeur, Grades 2-8 Teacher, Clairmont Community School – Peace Wapiti School Division

Passionate Heart Exceptional Team Award:

  • Grande Prairie Public Library
  • United Way Alberta Northwest

Passionate Heart Business Award:

  • Aztec Engineering Inc.

Chris Henderson Lifetime Achievement Award:

  • Katherine Schmidt, City of Grande Prairie

“The Passionate Heart Awards are a meaningful tradition in our region celebrating the people helping build resilient communities, and a strong representation of the value of collaboration with our FCSS partners,” said Angela Sutherland, Community Social Development Manager at the City of Grande Prairie.

“The City offers a huge congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, and thanks everyone in the community for the countless nominations.”
